Dave Matthews Band 7/30-7/31 WPB

It's a full house

DMB weekend has come & gone, and what a weekend it was! For my friends and I, this weekend is the culmination of summer, with plenty of rain and tailgating. Last year, was my first summer in 15 years, that I have missed DMB in South Florida due to some traveling. Even after seeing them well over 30 times, I was still really ecstatic to see them again after 2 years.

It is very rare occasion that their Friday night show outshines a sold out Saturday night one- but stranger things have happened. Friday they were on fire, and the crowd just could not get enough. Playing everything from “#41,” “You and Me,” “Dancing Nancies,” and “Tripping Billies,” there was not a moment to sit down. Yet on Saturday night, it seemed like large portions of the lawn were just sitting down, just yearning for something to dance to. The energy was undoubtedly there on stage, but they just chose the wrong set list for the 2nd night. Two people in our group actually fell asleep, which could possibility have been attributed to our tailgate starting at 4 p.m.

The highlights of 2nd show were the two Neil Young covers. Warren Hayes, from opening band Gov't Mule joined them on “Cortez the Killer.” The second Young song “Needle And The Damage Done," was during the encore. Dave came out solo, and dedicated it to the late LeRoi Moore. After the dedication, the entire band came back on stage, and preformed what might have been one of my favorite renditions of “Two Step.”

Next year the band will be on hiatus, and returning back in 2012.
